About Karen

This site is dedicated to easing your suffering

I believe knowledge is the most important aspect to realizing a healthy lifestyle. I strive to educate those interested in proactively participating in their own personal health and wellness encompassing physical, psychological and emotional components. I believe that everyone is unique, their biochemistry is unique, and therefore their journey to what health and wellness looks like for them to be as unique as they are.

We are meant to live well and to enjoy healthy and meaningful lives. My vision is to see everyone heal from their illness and symptoms. My vision is to see you get well and live the life you were meant to live so that you can spread your gifts, joy and love with others.

We are not meant to live a life of pain, misery, discomfort, sadness; we are meant to live a life of happiness and joy. I want to be of service to you so that you can in turn be in service to others; what a wonderful world this will be spreading joy and love.

My special Message to those inflicted with Crohn’s Disease

I was once in your shoes. I used to suffer at the hands of Crohn’s disease. I was not happy with my life, I hated constantly being in pain, l hated to have to do anything because my joints ached so bad, my constant low grade fever made it difficult to feel anything other than feeling down and out all the time. I lacked energy for work and family, people did not understand and did not want to be around me and, quite frankly I did not want to be around me either. I carried a change of clothing wherever I went, was always scoping out bathrooms and hoping there was a half decent clean stall. I hated the fact that I had to plan out starving myself so that I could get from point A-to-B without having to run for a washroom.

If you’re one of the millions afflicted with a painful digestive issue, like Crohn’s, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Ulcerative Colitis or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) – then I want to offer you hope.

Crohn’s disease. In case you are new to Crohn’s disease or do not know what Crohn’s disease is; Crohn’s disease falls under the umbrella of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Crohn’s disease affects about 1,400,000 people in the United States, 30 percent of whom are diagnosed as children. Men, women and children can be inflicted with Crohn’s disease at any time. It was once believed that it was hereditary however there are instances where there is no family history connection.

I know how horrible it is to hit the wall, time and again. I’ve cried out, in pain and frustration, fatigued beyond the point of exhaustion. Sick and tired of being sick and tired and completely done with the embarrassment and shame of coping with an invisible disease in a world that neither understands nor accommodates.

Karen in the hospital 2008

For most of my life, if I was not sick on the couch, I was taking up space in a hospital ward. I was in the hospital so frequently that the nurses and doctors knew who I was even in civilian clothing. I spent just about every Christmas in the hospital and got really good at creating christmas chains out of magazines. The nurses would bring me rolls of tape to keep me going. What I did not know is there was a competition each year for the best decorated ward…guess which ward won every year? Yup the one I was in.

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s my first year of College and the next four years were a whirlwind of pain, agony and sadness. It never seemed to get any better no matter what I did. And through the years I got sicker and more tired. Tired of my hair falling out, tired of wearing diapers to work, tired of work mates making fun of me or just plain being mean to me. I got tired of the prednisone moon-face, tired of the mood swings, tired of having two sets of clothing; one for on drugs and one off of drugs. I got tired of being sick-and-tired and skin and bones or so fat I was embarrassed to leave the house. I really just wanted to die; I would imagine ways of dying that would not involve a tremendous amount of pain. I was in a really deep dark place.

My darkness led me to wonder what it would be like to never suffer again with this debilitating medically incurable disease and the Universe provided me with my answers.

That moment of wonder brought me everything that I needed to heal. All I had to do was move beyond my limited beliefs and fear and take the next step. Something truly amazing happened. As I started to heal I felt better; I had tons of energy and pain was nonexistent.

Karen’s Family

The better I felt the more I wanted and the faster it came.

My whole perception about myself, others and life changed. My knowledge was expanding and I was becoming more open to other modalities of healing and something wonderful happened again; my confidence and belief in myself was growing. Because I learned to accept and love myself I started to attract others and events that allowed for this shift to grow.

Today, I am a wife to an amazing husband, and a mother and guide to 3 beautiful children (and two cats). I am able to live the fulfilled life I do today because I took responsibility for my health and chose to have the best life I can.

It didn’t happen overnight. It took years to finally reach my goal, of living pain free without any symptoms or complications of the disease that once plagued my every waking moment.

But it happened; eventually I found exactly what I was looking for. Three years ago, I had a colonoscopy by my gastroenterologist. I read the words of that and my pathology report that proved I had truly changed my life forever…

“no evidence of Crohn’s disease, inflammation, polyps, cancer.”

I’m free and you can be too…

If you’re ready and willing to say good-bye to suffering and step up to learn how to manage, control and conquer your affliction by addressing the physical, psychological and emotional components that contribute to it – you can do it too. If I can do this, I believe anyone can, all you need is the desire to want a better life, free of pain and misery.

I wanted to make sure that before I shared with you what I have learned to work for me I had to have the right credentials so that I can offer you the very best and latest research. There are some people out there that have come to a place of healing but lack the anatomy, physiology and pathology part of this rather complicated disease.

I know personally in my journey to wellness that I wanted someone who knew what the heck they were doing. After all I was a skeptic to begin with so I wanted to work with the right educated people. Being around those educated in the holistic field also fueled my desire to be the best I can be so that I too could be honored with the right knowledge.

I am always looking for fun, easy ways to inspire spark of interest in you taking responsibility for your health.
